This shop features yakisoba (stir-fried noodle) made with unique noodles from Asakusa Kaikarou—a legendary, long-established noodle factory revered by ramen geeks—giving the dish a serious, satisfying bite. This noodle, called “Karahigu-men,” was named after its co-developers: Italian chef Takahiro Higuchi and former freelance professional wrestler Karasu (crow) “The Phoenix.”
While sauce-based yakisoba is believed to have originated in Asakusa as a type of Yōshoku (Japanese-style Western cuisine), it has evolved into a beloved Japanese comfort food (especially served at barbecues or festival stalls). It typically features Chinese-style wheat noodles stir-fried with bite-sized pork, cabbage, carrots, and bean sprouts. The defining ingredient is the special yakisoba sauce—similar to Worcestershire sauce, but thicker, sweeter, and packed with umami. Before serving, it is often topped with aonori (dried green seaweed powder) and beni-shoga (red pickled ginger) for an extra burst of flavor and color.
At this shop, the noodles are cooked well-done until crazy-crispy, so they might feel a bit tough to chew at first. However, once you get used to it, that one-of-a-kind texture is unforgettable, and you’ll definitely be hooked.
The owner, Haruki Kijima—originally from Yoron Island—boasts a unique background as a former comedian, and his quick wit never fails to keep customers entertained. Adding to the lively atmosphere is a charming staff that has included former pop idols (they now form an Asakusa underground idol group), making your dining experience all the more unforgettable.
